In order to improve the connection between Koper and the other major ports, especially in Europe, a branch of METRANS, a licensed, dynamically developing railway company, called METRANS ADRIA, was established in Koper in 2006, which has been providing smooth and environmentally friendly transport of goods to Slovakia, Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic for more than 15 years.

For the METRANS branch, which is doing its best to ensure faster and more reliable deliveries of goods from Koper to the rest of the major ports, especially in Europe, it all started on 19 February 2007, when the 1st container train with 19 wagons or 76 TEUs arrived at the Port of Koper from Dunajská Streda in Slovakia.

Today, METRANS ADRIA can boast more than 40 train pairs and more than 1600 wagons per week. On average, every 4 hours a fully loaded container train departs from the Port of Koper for either Slovakia, Hungary, Austria or the Czech Republic. It is worth pointing out that this saves up to 50 trucks per journey, which makes an important contribution to environmental protection.
